15 June 2004. Today the first Airbus A320-200 was handed over to Jetstar. Click here for picture, but this also brings to QVA full utilisation of all Jetstar equipments - 717-200 and A320 - fully operational in APDLS, all available right now! This gives you as a QVA member full utilization of the following companies - Qantas, Qantaslink, Australian Airlines Mk1, Australian Airlines (LCC) mk2, Jetstar, Jetconnect, Australian Air Express, TAA, Impulse, Qantas New Zealand, Australia Asia AND historical Qantas aircraft - all in the one VA!! What else could you want from an Australian Virtual Airline? :-) Long may QAL prosper for when they grow - so shall QVA. Full details are in the ops manual, or just drop us a line in the forums if you need further information. Also congratulations to Mark taylor for wining Fs2004! This makes QVA one of the most generous VA's - with real prizes...we have given away fs2004 and a full yoke and pedal set so far!! As well as our weekly footy comp. 25 August 2003. With Alex Dunbar University commitments and his reluctant departure from QVA, Dean May has risen to the challenge and will take of the AFI role as of today. Congratulations to Dean on his appointment. Dean has been with QVA for some time now and we have seem him rise through the ranks steadfastly and with minimum fuss. Well done mate!
02 August 2003. Recreate the crossing of the pacific 75 years ago right here at QVA. You can do it in the tri motor just like Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles Ulm or in the luxury of a brand new 737 800! Its up to you. Go here for details.
17 April 2003. It is with much pleasure that I announce that Alex Dunbar has been accepted into the QVA Training Department and has taken over from Ali Hsu as Assistant Flight Instructor. His new role will to check the CR's for cat 1 and 2 pilots. So please congratulate him and welcome him to the Management Team.

28 October 2002. Finally up and running with much fan fare and anticipation - Australian Airlines. And so it is here as well at QVA. If you are Cat 4, you can fly the Australian way with Australian Airlines. All you have to do is bid for the routes (as normal), which are all here!, and check out the Australian Airlines history page, download the aircraft then bid normally and fly the route. Its all too easy at QVA...
04 September 2002. The Spirit of Friendship tour is finally over! The full report of it is on the Qantas web site with great pictures and full specifications and history of the 707-138b Clipper Jett Ella (formerly QAL City Of Launceston). The trip itinerary was this:

Hong Kong to Tokyo
Tokyo to Paris
Paris to Frankfurt
Frankfurt to London

for those with that want to, you can recreate this Spirit of Friendship tour in QVA. So for a limited time only - up until 31 October 2002 only, you can, "regardless of your QVA category" - recreate the flight - all you have to do is email QVA operations and request the go ahead for your historic recreation. You can then fly the entire trip, report it, then have your hours credited. Spirit of Friendship was a major advertising coup for Qantas - lets recreate it in our virtual flightsim world, with the same spirit of friendship as shown by Mr Travolta and Qantas. 11 July 2002: Special OFFER!! To co-incide with the John Travolta tour around the world in his beautifully repainted Qantas Liveried 707, QVA are offering you - our pilots - the chance to do the same. When John flies his beautifully restored 707, we will too...the proviso is..you have to report your flight via email to me within 48 hours of that flight actually taking place..so when he flies it - you can too!! regardless of your current category and have your hours counted!! 08 April 2002: FREE Cat 5 UPGRADES...all you have to do is come up with a fs2002 Qantas Livery A330-200 and/or A330-300 gmax version available for repaint at Project Opensky that passes our strict aircraft repaint policy/requirements. For all enquiries, please leave a message on the aircraft/panels forum and our Hangar manager will get back to you with relevant aircraft registration details for complete authenticity. First in, first served, so be quick! And don't forget that anyone that can come up with fs2002 floatplane air files that work properly like our Catalina FDE file will receive a free upgrade also! Don't forget the new GMAX 767's that are now available in the 763 and 762 hangar, and dont forget the new L188 Electra in the Historic Hangar...there's never any rest for our hangar crew.

17 February 2002: Aaron Miller has been accepted into the Management Committee and will replace Darrold Vessels as active CFI effective immediately. Aaron has been an active QVA member for some time now and was the obvious choice from a short list of candidates. We all congratulate Aaron on his promotion and look forward to him taking a more pro-active role at QVA as your Flight Instructor. If you have any questions of a CR or flying nature, Aaron is your man.

10 February 2002: Historic flights will receive a x2 bonus of flight hours until end of February. All historic flight reports received will be manually updated with double hours for each flight report received.

08 February 2002: QVA Online team now complete with QVA41 Leon Markich joining as Vatsim Coordinator with QVA58 Skip Fulton as IVAO coordinator. All pilots are encouraged to join both organisations and receive full benefits of this exciting innovation in flight simulation - active, live, real time, online Air Traffic Control. 13 January 2002: Historic Flights are now automatically available using APDLS. Check out the routes page for historic routes and bid for them normally using APDLS but choose Historic flight in the drop down box. More routes will be added over time, but this is a yet another great alternative and adds more variety if you get tired of watching the autopilot do all the work. More thankyou's to Ivan and Tony. Another first for QVA.

02 January 2002: Freight flights using our Australian Air Express Aircraft are now fully supported using APDLS. No more requesting via email! Just pull down the drop down menu with a normal bid to request (and receive automatically) a normal passenger or now Freight flights. Please note that historical and chartered flights are still on a request basis via email. This also doubles the choices that a cat 1 pilot can now request automatically via APDLS. Many thanks to Tony Lonsdale for his hard work sorting out the AaE routes, but most thanks must go to Ivan Ngeow - our APDLS maintainer, for without his work, that we all enjoy without a second thought, QVA as we have it today would just not be possible.

19 DECEMBER 2001: 2 new pages for all of us at QVA. First is a project that has been put off for a while but come to fruition. A "Site Map" which details (hopefully) all pages at QVA for easy reference, and a "Pilots link page" for any links you think will be of benefit to all QVA members. We also take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year in 2002. Thank you all for your patronage of QVA and we wish you all the best. Thank you, for without you, the QVA members, there would be no Qantas Virtual Airways.
21 NOVEMBER 2001; Lounge forum has undergone a major refit and been reborn and split into categories. These categories and their intended use are:

Announcement forum Used for low key QVA announcements much like this Notam page and may well overwrite this Notam page after the trial period has finished. This will be decided at a later stage. So keep checking this page for QVA announcements as usual
QVA ops and APDLS forum Used as the general QVA and APDLS forum for exchange of ideas and questions about the running of QVA, ideas, comments of a QVA nature.
Online flying forum Used for exchange of information by our online flying pilots (VATSIM and IVAO)
Aircraft and panels forum Used by our fleet and maintainer crews for exchange of information regarding the actual QAL fleet and downloads available here at QVA.
Footy and cricket forum Used for General interest items and a "bit of fun". But be warned, no rude or lewd jokes or links to any porn or gambling sites. If found, the offender will be immediately deleted with no recourse.

So feel free to peruse all forums and add your comments as you see fit! Dont forget normal lounge rules apply in all forums! The new forums will evolve and fit into normal QVA routine in no time flat, but are still on a trial basis only. So if you dont like the new idea, or have an idea that you think you want to forward, use our new APDLS forum!

2nd November, 2001: FS2002 has arrived and our Hangar Crew are working to update our fleet with models to suit the new arrival. To encourage a speedy introduction of our fleet to the new version from Microsoft, we are using mainly existing (FS2000) aircraft models with updated flight dynamics and associated files to allow you to fly them effectively in FS2002.
As each new model is introduced, an announcement will be made in the "Lounge" so keep your eyes out for further additions as they become available.
26 October 2001. A gift from QVA to the entire flightsim community, Qantas's or more precisely, "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service's" first aircraft the AVRO 504k is available for your inspection and download right now, exclusive to QVA!! Enjoy...
20 October 2001. I dont think you all know just what exactly goes on behind these web pages. I would therefore like to publicly comment and commend the work that our hangar crew do for your va - QVA. They work tirelessly working, reworking, repainting, testing, fixing and repainting our Qantas fleet. Its not that easy to do I have to tell you and requires great skill, dexterity and patience. Without the work that these gentleman do, our VA would not be able to give you -our vp's, the outstanding aircraft that we all now take for granted. I have been fortunate enough to receive some "beta versions" or these aircraft before they get to "download" ready and i thought they were great already, but no, our hangar crew reworked this texture, that bitmap, to get it - just right. So on behalf of the CEO, Ivan and myself i would like to thank the following personnel for their tireless activities.

1. James Kaminiski..the hangar boss...always resolute and a perfectionist. If its not right - it doesnt happen.
2. Tony Lonsdale..2i/c, and a great painter in his own right, but also in charge of the web changes at the site and what is available to download.
3. Mark Eigendorp..( no longer with us as he joined the RAAF but i hope a frequent visitor to QVA..Gday Mark if you are reading this...you're always welcome).and,
4. Darrold Vessels. Just learning the art of repaints, but already has 2 great aircraft on this site available right now... also your Personnel Officer and looks after your joining routine and manages our personnel database.

So please join me in thanking them for their work. If you download one of their aircraft, please thank them on the Crew Lounge so they can see we don't take them for granted but appreciate everything they do so well - for all of us at QVA.

Thank you Gentleman we couldnt do it without you.

14th October 2001: The front page you all currently delve through, was only an interim thing that we made up for a previous contest. If you can come up with something better, brighter and sparklier, please feel free to do so and forward it for consideration. Any idea put forward and considered good enough will be put online and the winner will receive instant recategorisation to cat 5!! This is a rotating, always available contest, so keep the ideas coming in for consideration!! With the chance to cheat 400 hours of va category flying for instant cat 5 promotion - yes you can fly any flight at cat 5 - any flight!! cat 1, 2 ,3, 4 and 5 cat flights are available at cat 5..
18th September 2001: after much hurried code rewriting and domain name/url redirects, Qantas Virtual Airways is back on line. We are currently in the process of making it easier for everyone but our url that will always get you to our site, no matter what server we are on is and will be : http://www.qva-va.com so bookmark it or save as a favourite. Thank you all for your patience, but we are back online. If you find any dead links, please first refresh your page completely by pressing ctrl F5 as this will request all new information from your isp instead of relying on a saved cache page.
7th August, 2001: There is a new QVA Operations Manual available for all to read. It offers helpful advice to all new pilots to help them become familiar with all aspects of QVA, but it also makes good reading for everyone, even those of us who have been with QVA for some time. Have a look when you get the chance.
21 July 2001: QVA is now active with Online Flying (with real time Air Traffic Control) and QVA is proud to be a partner with VATSIM, the Virtual Air Traffic Network. What is Online Flying? Well, have a look at our new Satpac/Vatsim Web Page for more information and contact QVA's Operations (Satpac) - to discuss any questions with our own Satpac guru, Alexander Mckinnon.
7 July 2001: Only authenticated QVA pilots are allowed to post to the QVA Club Lounge now. When submitting a message to the Lounge please ensure your correct Password is included otherwise the system will not accept your message. And please observe professional etiquette when communicating with your colleagues here at QVA.
30th June, 2001: QVA is upgrading the appearance of the Web Site with some small improvements to make the site more attractive and more functional at the same time. The QVA Home Page is the one that could use the most creativity, and Management has decided to introduce a competition among QVA members to see who can come up with the best Home Page for QVA. Send your ideas whether just some thoughts or (if you have some knowledge of HTML) send a sample Web Page to Dave Thomas at QVA Operations. The winner's prize will be instant promotion to Category 5 where you will be able to fly ANY aircraft in the QVA fleet! Entries close on 17th July 2001 so don't delay.
15th May 2001: Note that when submitting a Check Ride video to upgrade your Category, you must include a notice of your current hours flown for QVA on the type you are currently rated for. That is, if you are upgrading from a Cat III to Cat IV your email must include details of the hours you have logged at QVA in Cat III. Check the Check Rides Page for details

26 January 2001: An Australia Day gift from QVA09 Tony Lonsdale, Aircraft Animator. This is a BAe 146-100 which will supplement our current BAe 146-200.
25 December 2000: A Christmas gift from QVA12 James Kaminski, Hangar Manager. VH-OGH is a B767-300 with moving parts and high-thrust engines.
29 November 2000: A new page describing charter flights has been written by Operations Officer QVA02 Dave Thomas.
29 November 2000: The BAe Jetstream 31 is decommissioned from flight operations in QVA. The aircraft is now parked in the Historic Aircraft section of the Fleet.
