Qantas own and operate a low cost domestic carrier called Jetstar in the Australian domestic market which commenced operations in May 2004 and partially own a sister airline called Jetstar Asia based in Singapore which will start operations in December 2004. This is a world wide concept and as usual, QVA will commence virtual operations with Jetstar fully apdls operational. This makes 3 low cost Qantas group carriers now - Australian Airlines (international and east coast operations), Jetstar (domestic australia wide) and Jetstar Asia and Valuair(far east asian based). Jetstar Australia utilised the old Impulse AOC (airline operators certificate) and use the 717-200 as well as the A320 but will replace the 717-200 overtime with A320 units and eventually Jetstar will become a full A320 Airbus fleet comprising of a total of 23 x A320 aircraft. The Jetstar Asia operation will initially borrow aircraft from its Australian sister-airline but will eventually operate its own fleet of A320 aircraft. Valuair was bought by the Qantas group and currently flies the Indonesian routes in conjunction with Jetstar Asia from Singapore. In November 2007, it was announced that Jetstar will also purchase Airbus A321 a/c to increase its ever increasing passenger levels and it is expected that the A321 will come online in middle 2008
