Dehavilland DH-106 Comet

the following information was sent to QVA by Paul Sheehan and we post here as received.  Thank you Paul for this information:

The use of the Comets was a twofold exercise: 

  1. When the original Boeing 707-138s were returned to Boeing for conversion to -138Bs, QF were a bit short of capacity and leased a total of 5 Comets to cover the shortfall.
  2. Before Perth Airport’s runway was lengthened to take the 707s, the Comets were also used on the Singapore-Jakarta-Perth sectors on behalf of QF.

 The aircraft used were: 

G-APDC Msn 6404

G-APDL Msn 6413

G-APDM Msn 6414

G-APDP Msn 6417

G-APDR Msn 6418

 All were used in a relative short period 1960-61 which fits in well with the -138s being converted to -138Bs
