Impulse/ Airconnex

Impulse Airlines was formed in 1982 as a dedicated airfreight specialist and charter operator. At that stage, its major activity was the distribution and warehousing of newspapers and publications for the John Fairfax group

In 1993, Impulse acquired the assets of regional carrier Oxley and branched out into regional passenger services within Northern NSW. Then, in June 2000, the airline became the first in seven years to begin flying jets on the nation's inter-city domestic trunk routes, becoming Australia's third domestic carrier.

From 01May 2001 Impulse Airlines operated as an aviation service provider to Qantas, Australia's largest domestic and International carrier which saw the introduction of the b1900 and 717 200 to Qantas services.  The 717's were subsequently rebranded into the Qantaslink livery, but the b1900's were maintained in their normal Impulse livery.  Qantas bought out Impulse totally in Nov 2001 thus bringing to an end the Impulse aviation era.  The 717 aircraft are still retained to this day and did operate under the Qantaslink branding till May 2004. The b1900's were sold off in 2003/2004. Qantas transferred Impulses AOC to the brand new low domestic fare subsidiary Jetstar and will use the 717 aircraft to kick start Jetstar operations, then slowly replace the 717 one by one with brand new Airbus A320 aircraft.  It is invisaged that by 2006, the 717 will be returned to the aircraft's lessee. Initially the 717's were painted in an attractive all white livery - void of any branding, but over time were repainted into the Jetstar livery
